- Resumen The history of numismatics in what is now Central America has been slow to emerge from obscurity. Several initial books on the subject were produced by foreign and Central American numismatists in the nineteen sixties and seventies . They covered only parts of the Spanish Colonial and Republican periods, and mostly referred to individual countries. Other researchers brought to light valuable historical information to fill existing major gaps during the final decade of the twentieth century and in the most recent years. However, more research is still required to completely fill the prevailing gaps. Historical data awaits the devoted researcher in dust-filled places located in both Spain and in America.
